A traditional courtyard garden has taken the place of a rough lawn behind this old redbrick farmhouse. Hedges on two sides have enclosed the intimate, private space, where natural materials sympathetic to the buildings provide a backdrop for loose, romantic planting, including a combination of shrubs and perennials.
